European standards harmonized with the European Directive on machinery, applicable in welding and allied processes

Petru Țenchea, President ASRO/CT 39 – Sudare și procedee conexe, E-QSE Consulting SRL Timișoara, e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Abstract: The three types of safety standards, based on the Directive on machinery are presented, with examples. Some terms and definitions from the A type standard EN ISO 12100:2010, Safety of machinery – General principles for design – Risk assessment and risk reduction (ISO 12100:2010) are detailed. The tow specific standards for welding and allies processes are presented (EN ISO 15012-4-2016 – Equipment for capture and separation of welding fume – Part 4: General requirements, a type B standard, and EN ISO 17916:2016 – Safety of thermal cutting machines, a type C standard). Keywords: European Directive, harmonized standard, welding, allied processes, welding fume, thermal cutting machine.

Abstract: The tasks and responsabilities of the thermal spray coordination personnel are highlighted. New information on the standardization of coating specification, of thermal spray procedure specification and of qualification of thermal sprayers are given. All the requirements are focused to the satisfaction of EN ISO 14922 requirements. Keywords: thermal spraying, thermal spraying coordination, specification, procedure specification, qualification, standardization.

Abstract: The importance of standardization for the welded steel construction industry is well evidenced by the examples which occur day by day in the factory, on site or even in the early stages of design. This paper highlights the fact that the designer, the customer and the constructor all must attach great importance to the strict conformity to the standards; communication between designer - beneficiary - constructor is very important. The decision to apply for a particular consequence class and execution class of a structure or some elements of it is very important; if from the beginning the choice of a consequence class or execution class is incorect can occur unpleasant events. Sometimes a wrong decision may even lead to the collapse of the structure. Through the examples presented in the paper highlights the importance of framing a structure or its elements depending on the loads they are subjected and its importance. Keywords: execution classes, consequences classes, SR EN 1090 Requirements, service category.

Robotic Friction Stir Welding – a challenge for the fabrication of aluminium structures for the transportation sector

Dorin Dehelean, Asociaţia de Sudură din România, e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Abstract: The paper presents the main characteristics of the Friction stir welding process and its applications in the transportation sector. The difficulties for the implementation of robotic Friction stir welding are identified. A new robotic welding system developed by a multidisciplinary research team in the frame of an European project is presented. The system is capable of performing welded joints of aluminium alloys having 3 D complex configurations. Keywords: friction stir welding, robotic welding, aluminium alloys.
