❯ Proposals concerning the correlation between the hydrogen action and the welds cold cracking

Abstract: The necessity to consider the temperature and the time together with the classical triad hydrogen – structure – stresseswhich produce the hydrogen assisted cracking is motivated. It is made a special mention about the discrepancybetween the usual indicator HD100gMD, which represents the average concentration of hydrogen, uniform distributedat macroscopic level, and the maximum local concentration at nano and micrometric level, taken into considerationby the new theories about hydrogen assisted cracking (FAH). There are presented many causes determining the verynon-uniform local distribution of hydrogen at micro and submicroscopic level. Also, it is underlined the necessity toestablish the nature and the strength of relation between the macroscopic average concentrations and the maximumconcentrations at micro and submicroscopic level. In comparison with HD100gMD indicator, it is considered that:

- to estimate the materials quality, the HT 100g indicator is more suitable;

- to estimate the risk of hydrogen assisted cracking, the Ht100gMC indicator is more adequate.

❯ The history and development of welded steel bridges in Romania**)

Abstract: Romania is one of the European countries where the steel industry started in the 18th century. In the second partof the 19th century the Austrian Railways STEG – Company developed in the western part of the country – inReșița – the production of steel and introduced modern steel technologies. In this time all the connections of thebridges were riveted. The first developments in welded connections for steel bridges appeared in the ’30 of thelast century, replacing the traditional riveted connections. The first welded bridge in Romania was fabricatedand erected in Resita in 1937. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, steel welded structures (bridges) fabricated in the plantsunder controlled conditions and erected on site by high strength bolts or riveting, become the usual way in theconstruction of these structures. After some years of experience, in 1966 begun the construction of the Danubebridge in Giurgeni; it is a completely welded structure. In 1986 the new complex of Danube bridges in the Feteşti– Cernavodă area was inaugurated. The paper presents an overview of the history and development of weldedstructures in Romania; a special attention is paid to steel railway and highway bridges. In the last part of thepaper, some present tendencies in the construction of modern welded bridges are presented.Keywords: steel bridges, welded connections, fatigue behaviour, brittle fracture, defects, cast iron, wroughtiron, integral bridges.

Abstract: Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011, laying down the harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products,has been in force since 1st July 2013. In order for the basic requirements specified in the regulation to be fulfilled,each manufacturer shall maintain a factory production control system. An effective operation of a factory productioncontrol system can only be ensured if the personnel involved in such activities possess adequate qualifications, treningand experience to handle the special processes used for the designing and manufacturing of the structures.Keywords: education, steel and aluminum structures, factory production control, special processes, qualification,training, personnel.

Abstract: The analysis starts from the international and European standardized requirements for the qualification of, welders and welding operators for the welding of metals, specified in international and European standards ISO, and EN (EN ISO). The requirements are used as the basis of the welding personnel training and qualification/certification systems, prepared by the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and the European Federationof Welding (EWF). The analysis of the situation from Romania emphasizes aspects related both to the initial, vocational training by the national educational system, and to the continuous vocational training (lifelonglearning) in non regulated and regulated fields (i.e. pressure equipment). The analysis considers the existingstandards and regulations, the occupations established in COR – 7212, the existing occupational standards, thelist of the professions and occupations with special education and training requirements. The conclusions leadto some methodological, organizational and normative proposals for improvement, aiming to obtain a singlesystem, consistent with the international standards and practices promoted by IIW.Keywords: welder, training, qualification, internationalstandard, European standard, occupational standard.

❯ Welding coordination – Optional or mandatory requirement ?!

Abstract: The paper presents the consequences of a real case of ignorance and lack of application of the requirementsof the standard SR EN ISO 14731:2008 in the production of a welded bridge. Presenting the product, manyshortcomings have been revealed, all caused by the absence of a welding coordinator that led to a significantloss of money and a delay on the deadline for completion of the welded structure.Keywords: Welding coordinator, procedures qualification, welders qualification.
